Addressed by Tan Sri Lim at the presentation of the Kuala Lumpur World Peace
22 July 2003

It is an honour to be given this opportunity to present the inaugural Kuala Lumpur World Peace Award to His Excellency, Monsieur Jacques Chirac.

His Excellency is a giant among world leaders, and is known throughout the world as a man of immense courage and vision.

Allow me to briefly sum up his citation in a few words :

The award is in recognition of his outstanding dedication to the peaceful resolution of international conflict, his courage in defence of principle, and his commitment to cooperation and consensus-building amongst the nations of the world.

Through recent times, during which the world was riven by the global war against terrorism, he sought common ground to advance and sustain peace in our world.

He has spoken out boldly against the use of violence. He has defended vigorously the principle that conflicts should be resolved through mediation and international cooperation based on international law.

His untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance human rights and democracy, and to promote economic and social development for the benefit of all has won him admiration and respect throughout the world.

His Excellency truly embodies the noble qualities of a world statesman. We salute him. And in gratitude, the Malaysian World Peace Foundation is honoured to confer upon him the first Kuala Lumpur World Peace Award.
