Malaysia can now expect a steady flow of Russian students to the country for research projects and tertiary education, following the recent signing of a collaboration memorandum between Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, and 13 Russian colleges and universities.

Reversing the traditional trend, the collaboration will enable Russian students and academics to undertake joint R&D projects in areas like design, applied computer and IT, aircraft technology, economics, and oil and gas development with Limkokwing counterparts.

“We’re also working on double-degree and post-graduate programmes for mutual benefit. This fresh change will see local students gaining from Russian content,” said Limkokwing president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing.

“Our Semester Abroad progamme will enable our students to spend a semester at a Russian institution of higher learning while Russian students come down to study at Limkokwing.”

Soon, a Russian language centre will be set up at Limkokwing for local students to learn the language before pursuing their studies in Russia.

The signing was held during the visit of a 20-member delegation from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science to Limkokwing Cyberjaya campus to check out its facilities on April 25.

Led by Russian Centre of Science and Culture director Nikolay Savenkov, the group agreed to cooperate closely in the development of Master’s and dual degrees in disciplines such as music, arts and crafts, business management and architecture.

Among the signatories present that day were senior vice chancellors and directors from St Peterburg State University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow University of Economics, Statistics and IT, Moscow State University of Stomatology and Medicine, and Moscow Architectural Institute.

At present, there are almost 2,000 Malaysian students pursuing education in Russia.
