
Founder and President of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato Seri Dr. Lim Kok Wing, received the International Contribution to Humanity and Philanthropy Award at the 2nd International Muslim Unity convention on Thursday.
It was an historic moment for Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing to receives such highest award as he shares the honour with five fellow receipents, including the former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who received the Global Peace Maker award.
Among the other receipents were Chairman of Yayasan Al-Bukhary, Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Shah Al-Bukhary, Late Tan Sri S.O.K Ubaidulla Kadir Basha, Dr Sohail Masood and Dr Mona Masood.
Muhammad Umar, the Chairman of Ramadhan Foundation said Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing reacted as a mentor to thousands of young people from over 150 countries, pursuing higher learning programme at the Cyberjaya campus and other campuses in three continents .
“He (Lim) hosted the students in the campuses and he sees hope for a more peaceful future. Apart from that he has designed the eco-system of his institutions across the world to honour humanity and celebrating the creativity embedded in every culture on planet earth.
“Tan Sri Lim also has made education as the basis to bridge the many divides faced by the world,” said Muhammad.
He said the endless contribution in voicing Islamic nation’s problem, such as Palestine issues, by Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, has made the foundation to honour him to the award.
Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing personal journey has given him insights that helped him to understand and concern other’s hardship.
Muhammad said: “ Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing is able to recognise talent and uses his institution to provide opportunities to those who would, otherwise be unable to develop their potentials.
“Limkokwing Foundation for Creative Excellence for many years has sponsored the physically challenged to acquire skills that gained them entry into creative industries.
Early this year Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing was named by Forbes, as Heroes of Philanthropy.
Philanthropy was a part of Tan Sri’s life even before he became a brand for creative education. He has supported every causes and contributed both his time and money to alleviate suffering in others.
In 2005, he was named the “Ernst & Young Malaysian Entrepreneur of the Year” for his extraordinary efforts to improve international humanitarian relations, build human capability and enhance cross-cultural understanding for the world.
Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing is well-known as an entrepreneur who balanced his success with social consciousness.
