Popular graphic design degree at Limkokwing

Kuching: It’s a fact that some of the most identifiable symbols in the world have been generated by graphic designers.

Now Sarawakians can become first rate graphic designers by enrolling into the Anglia Ruskin’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design delivered at Limkokwing.

It can all begin here with a degree in Graphic Design. The programme trains students for entry-level positions in the graphic design and multimedia industry, enabling them to create efficient design that communicate visually in both print and multimedia settings. Also, Limkokwing trains industry-applicable technology, so students are ready to meet career challenges.

Since the degree was first introduced in February this year, around 40 Sarawakians have taken on the challenge of being among the first in Sarawak to gain a British degree in this field. Among them is Natasha binti Rusdy Wong.

“I choose to do the Anglia Ruskin Graphic Design degree programme not only it allowed me to complete my degree right here in Kuching, but also because i knew that i would be receiving a quality education from a globally recognized university.” says Natasha. “The fact that I can choose to complete my training in London is an added bonus as i will be exposed to the industry challengers in such an advanced country, which will in turn allow me to hone my talents and skills”

Jeremiah Moa, who opted to do his degree at Limkokwing said, “It is also about developing as an individual, capable of creative, independents thought, with the confidence and ability to deliver significant input within a professional environment.” For Roy Hamson, a Limkokwing alumni and who did his diploma three years ago, the opportunity to further his studies could not come at a better time.

“I always wanted to continue to complete my degree and I’m so excited that I can do it here right here in Sarawak.” he said. “I have been working in the industry for some time now but i feel that a degree can propel me to higher levels where I can use my skills to become a better professional.”

When a students signs up for an Anglia Ruskin programme, they automatically become a student of not one but two universities and by the same token they will enjoy twice the benefits. They have the option to travel to the UK to use the facilities at Anglia Ruskin and, as a Limkokwing student, they will gain from the unique approach to education that gives students the opportunity to be involved in industry projects.

Armed with a degree in Graphic Design, these young designers will be invaluable in contributing towards the design industry in Sarawak. As said by the Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, recently at the launch of the institute, innovation and creativity in marketing strategies and designs of products of SCORE were vital to make them attractive to potential buyers and investors. In this, the Chief Minister views Limkokwing as an important Institute to train human capital with skills that can bring sophistication to SCORE and other industrial development areas in the state.

A graduate of the BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme will be much sought after as an Art Director, Design Manager, Illustrator, Dekstop Publishing Specialist, Image Touch-up Designer, Advertising Manager, Packaging Designer or entry into fields such as website design and arts marketing.

Limkokwing Borneo commenced the Anglia Ruskin 3+0 Degree programmes in February this year, offering for a start Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Graphic Design, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Business Management and Bachelor of Science (Hons) Computer Science.
