
Cyberjaya, 18 December 2010: Dec 18 2010 marked a milestone and a new chapter for Limkokwing University of Creative Technology when DYMM Sultanah Pahang Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom DK was installed as its inaugural Chancellor in conjunction with the 2010 Graduation.
In a glittering ceremony steeped in royal pomp and splendor, the Sultanah signed a special plaque to mark the occasion of her installation.
Her Majesty’s proclamation was witnessed by members of the Royal Pahang household, diplomatic corps, invited guests and celebrities.
In her first duty as Chancellor, the Sultanah officiated at the University’s ‘Graduating Class of 2010”, awarding scrolls to 100 recipients from 44 countries. Twelve students also received the first-ever Chancellor’s Awards from Her Majesty.
The Sultanah - who is the Consort of KDYMM Sultan of Pahang - was also conferred an ‘Honorary Doctorate of Social Development’ for her exceptional work in societal advancement by the Founder President of Limkokwing University, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing.
The university citation was read out by Vice President Dato’ Parid Wardi Sudin who said the “the Sultanah’s exceptional work in societal advancement and her contribution to the rights of women and children and the welfare of the family” exemplified her commitment and concern to the family structure.
The citation said that in espousing the cause of women and development, Her Highness’ leadership has encouraged women to empower themselves to attain the highest they can achieve.
Prior to her address, a 5-minute tribute video presentation on the Sultan of Pahang was screened. Created by the University, the video traced the life of the Sultan of Pahang as a ruler who is close to his subjects, his achievements as Ruler of the state for 36 years, as well as his personal pursuits and family life.
In her royal address, the Chancellor said she was “extremely proud and honoured to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate for Social Development as Chancellor” on this “wonderful day”.
“Today marks a significant time of my life, one that I will truly cherish in my heart,” she said. “My role as the Chancellor of this prestigious university gives me such a wonderful opportunity to be part of nurturing the talent of young people from all over the world.”
In her parting message for the new graduates, the Sultanah said she hoped that “every successful young graduate will put in motion a chain reaction that will create a better place for our future generations”.
“My sincere wish is that all of you will be an inspiration of great change, which will make a difference and make you proud to be recognized as having graduated from Limkokwing University”.
Speaking on behalf of the 2010 Graduating Class, Pakistani student Tinath Saeed spoke eloquently of how the moment marked the end of one part of the graduands lives, and the start of a whole new chapter.
“Today marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new life”,” she said. “Limkokwing presents so many different cultures similar to ours. Here we are able to venture out to endless possibilities, become independent and to face the world”.
Saeed graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Marketing.
She elaborated, “It also marks the day we grow up, truly conquering all our fears and start a new life of hope, passion, courage, strength and success”.
Following the formality of Her Majesty’s installation, the event took on a colourful celebratory feel as the University’s international choir delivered a two-part musical tribute - first singing stirring renditions of the Sultan’s favourite songs Widuri and I Did It My Way.
Then - to the surprise and amusement of the Sultanah - the Choir changed gears to a rousing rendition of Her Majesty’s favourite song - the Bollywood hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
It was obvious Her Majesty thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected songs as she was seen smiling and swaying throughout.
Her Majesty’s proclamation was the highlight of the day-long graduation event at the University with over 900 local and international students receiving their diplomas and degrees.

Orphan CARE, a non-profit organsiation that serves as a baby-hatch for mothers to anonymously leave their unwanted newborns for adoption.
Soroptimist Club of Kuantan, a grouping of professional women who pool their talents to assist the needy
Honorary Member of the Sorority, an exclusive members-only club based in London, the United Kingdom.
