Lim Kok Wing acclaimed for his transformational leadership in 21st century education

Kuala Lumpur, 19 November 2010: President of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing, was awarded the prestigious Master Class Awards ASEAN Lifetime Achievement – Leadership in Transformational Education by the ASEAN Retail - Chains & Franchise Federation (ARFF) at the Sunway Convention Centre recently.

The award recognizes Tan Sri Lim as a globally-focused educationalist and the driving force of creative education in Malaysia through his University, which currently has 12 campuses spread across Asia, Africa and Europe.

Limkokwing Associate Vice-President of Creativity and Innovation Tiffanee Marie Lim accepted the award from the Deputy Minister of Finance Dato Donald Lim on her father’s behalf. She was also honoured at the same function - she received the ASEAN Master Class Awards - Emerging Woman Entrepreneur of the Year for her leadership skills as a rising Malaysian entrepreneur.

Great personalities

Other prominent personalities similarly recognized by ARFF were the Chief Executive Office of Air Asia, Dato’ Sri Tony Fernandes and Dato’ Khadijah Ibrahim.

Also present was the President of ARFF, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Chin See Keat, federation officials and guests from the different ASEAN member countries.

Transformational education

Tan Sri Lim has been acknowledged globally for his untiring efforts to instill creativity and innovation in the younger generation and,
by doing so, open new pathways for them to contribute to nation-building.

In a landmark Malaysia: Innovation Nation conference organized by the University in July this year Tan Sri Lim encapsulated his thoughts in his speech: “In a world that is placing an increasing value on the power of innovation, our education system should nurture and inspire a passion to explore and create; not be obsessed with passing examinations and collecting paper qualifications,” he said.

“We need our people to think and live outside of the box in everything that they do. These are the kind of people who, through the ages, have changed the way we live and work, and the things we do. These are the people who would move mountains if mountains are standing in the way.”
