The global trailblazer
Now, Tan Sri Lim has taken on his most formidable challenge yet.
His mission: turning Limkokwing into a global university.
Simultaneously, he aims to boost Malaysia’s position as an international tertiary education hub.
Because of what he has achieved, the Malaysian brand of education has become more widely recognised around the world, which will bring more students from more countries to study in Malaysia.
Limkokwing’s expansion to foreign shores has been part and parcel of the vision that was in his mind when he started the university.
“This is not just another private college. This is an international endeavour. This is how I see it. And this is how I will do it,” as he shared his vision with his staff in a speech many years ago.
He wanted to create a two-way traffic in education between Asia and the world; not only one-way, with students heading only to the West, but also with students heading to the East.
He believed it was vitally important to reverse the flow because an education with a purely Western bias is no longer sufficient in the world today.
Today’s reality, in which economies such as Japan, China, South Korea and India are challenging the West for global dominance, a strictly Western-centric education is no longer sufficient -not even for people living in the West.
Through its Global Classroom and its campuses on three continents, Limkokwing University has already achieved the level of globalisation which enables it to deliver a “world view” to its students.
